Two Argentinas: From Buenos Aires to Patagonia’s Southern Tip

January 3 - 11, 2027

8 Nights

1 /

Your journey begins in Buenos Aires, a city of grand avenues, neighborhood cafes, and electric nightlife. Over three days, you’ll explore its streets through the PRIOR lens, experiencing architecture, design, and local cuisine from an insider’s perspective. Moving between historic San Telmo and leafy, design-forward Palermo, we’ll unlock private spaces and renowned local ateliers, among them knitwear studios working with Patagonian guanaco and vicuña wool.

A short flight brings you to the city of Río Grande in Tierra del Fuego, followed by an off-road drive to our home for the next five nights: Estancia San José. Set at the southernmost edge of South America, this remote region—known as the Land of Fire—is alive with whooshing winds, shifting light, and a sense that nature is in full control. Our hosts have lived here for generations, and their knowledge of the land’s flora and fauna runs deep.

A man-made beacon set amid 20,000 acres (8,000 hectares) of unspoiled private land, Estancia San José was once owned by media magnate Ted Turner, who was initially drawn to the area’s unspoiled expanses and the Río Grande’s sea-run trout. Shaped by rushing rivers, varied wildlife, and sweeping isolation, the property ultimately belongs to the land itself.

Days unfold between hikes and leisurely horseback rides along riverbanks and across the steppe, followed by hearty, fire-cooked meals. A visit to Estancia María Behety, a historic sheep ranch and fly-fishing lodge, coincides with the brief January shearing season, when the world’s largest sheep-shearing shed comes alive. Taking place during the only week of the year that this work unfolds, our visit offers a rare look at a time-honored way of life—one that’s increasingly difficult to sustain.

As the only guests at Estancia San José, you’ll stay in comfortable wooden cabin that recall the region’s vernacular architecture. Downtime is spent by the fire in the main farmhouse, sipping yerba mate from carved gourds as our hosts strum Argentine folk songs on the guitar. Yoga sessions and massages bring further relaxation. Meals prepared by the private chef center around creativity and comfort, with dishes like grilled river trout, roasted garden vegetables, and zesty chimichurri—a house staple.
