Trip Description

Every fall food and wine enthusiasts descend upon Piedmont, home to the rare white truffle as well as Nebbiolo, a grape variety cultivated for Barolo and Barbaresco, two of the most elegant wines of all. Piedmont, in Italy’s northwestern region, sits at the foot of the Alps, in the Langhe, an area dotted with vineyards, oak woodlands and hazelnut groves. Fall is ideal for visiting the region during the harvest, when its rolling hills turn a fiery red and orange and truffle hunters set out to uncover this elusive, earthly delight.

During this four day experience, guests will learn everything about the white truffle— from its ideal, mottled texture to its heady scent. Guests will embark on a traditional hunt with truffle-sniffing dogs as well as attend the White Truffle Fair in Alba, tasting this delicacy shaven on fresh tajarin, the local egg pasta tossed simply in butter, pizza and so many other ways.

Apart from being Italy’s spiritual truffle capital, Piedmont boasts a wine heritage like no other Italian region, producing some of the world's most coveted wines using old world traditions. Explore one of the unique wine regions recognized by the UNESCO as a world heritage site, walking through its vineyards to capture the essence of its wines, apart from deep dive tastings of some of the rarest labels in the region.

Meet with young wine producers that are pushing the boundaries of winemaking in the region and are injecting new energies and habits. Re-enact the celebration of Cante J’Euv, the singing of the eggs, a ceremony happening under full moon days and wishing to farmers and producers a good harvest season and to end the clubhouse on a joyful note.

Guests will stay at Dai Gresy, a recently restored farmhouse on the ridge of Monte Aribaldo, which connects Barbaresco and Treiso. The 11-room property, which has been in the well-respected vintner Dai Gresy family since 1650, who take a modern approach to sustainability, using natural and recycled materials as well as planting a biodiverse garden with rare fruit trees, wildflower and beehives.

Trip highlights

Secrets of Barolo and Barbaresco

A private tasting at some of Langhe's most prestigious wineries, which are run by some of the region’s most illustrious families. PRIOR has extremely rare access to a few multi-generational wineries producing some of the best Barolos and Barbarescos in the world, which guests will taste during our tour.

Hazelnut Heaven

Also the birthplace to the world famous Nutella hazelnut spread, Piedmont is home to some of the best if not the best hazelnuts in the world. Baptized as the “Queen of the Langhe”. Visit Papa dei Boschi, an acclaimed small sized hazelnut farm to discover the many ways this excellence is tasted.

Hike the Vineyards

Walk in the heart of Langhe, where vineyards blend together with oak woods and hazelnut groves. Follow a wine enthusiast in the trails running from the town of Monforte d’Alba up to the hamlet of Barolo, visiting wineries and tasting ripened Nebbiolo grapes straight from the vines.

An Earthly Delight

Experience the Fiera del Tartufo di Alba with your own personal truffle expert to understand the differences between truffle varieties from the taste to the texture. Afterwards, take your new bounty of truffles and taste them the PRIOR way. The next day, suit up in boots and a walking stick to join Luna, a Lagotto Romagnolo hound, through hazelnut groves and oak forest in search of the most prestigious product of the region: white truffle.

Cantè J’Euv

Cantè j’euv or “singing of the eggs” is Piedmontese old world celebration, which happens over Easter time, when nomadic musicians wander the hills of Langhe to wish winemakers a good harvest with the upcoming vintage. Guided by torchlight, guests will re-enact the celebration strolling through the vineyards under the full moon.
